1st LEVEL: LIQUID DIET (Days 1-5)

  • 1st Day: You can drink water at the 2nd hour and meat/chicken broth at the 4th hour after the operation. Drink 1 glass of water per hour. Later in the day, you may prefer light tea and linden. You can consume broth (cooked with vegetables and meat/chicken and passed through cheesecloth), fruit juices (grape, apple, pear etc.) (except citrus group; orange, grapefruit, tangerine).
  • 2nd Day: You can consume milk, fruit and vegetable juices filtered through cheesecloth, diluted buttermilk. You should never drink carbonated drinks.
  • For the first 2 days, clear liquid diet will be applied.
  • For the first 2 days, you can drink water in small swallows.
  • On the second day, you can consume approximately a tea glass of milk every hour.
  • On … Day, you can prefer linden, unsweetened fruitless compotes, fresh sieved juice (except for citrus fruits), broth, chicken broth except water.
  • You should drink liquid foods in small swallows and you should not use pipet.
  • When you feel full, you should quit drinking the liquid.

2nd LEVEL: PURÉED FOOD DIET (Days 5-10)

  • Mashed diet will be applied.
  • You should consume stiff foods blended.
  • In addition to liquid diet, you may prefer soft-boiled egg, fat-free cheese, soft fishes, minced meat, mashed fruit, mashed vegetables such as carrot, squash, string beans which do not form gas.
  • You should not consume raw vegetables.
  • Meal quantity should be less at first, then you can increase it gradually. You can start with 1-2 tablespoon and increase it afterwards.
  • Foods should be consumed slowly and should be chewed completely. Every meal should last about 30 minutes.
  • Liquid and mashed food should not be consumed at the same meal.
  • Prohibitions are valid also in this period.

3rd LEVEL: SOFT FOODS DIET

  • It is a soft foods diet.
  • You can consume red meat, white meat and fish. But you should avoid fibrous stiff meats, chicken skin and hard-to-chew vegetables.
  • Liquid should be stopped 30 minutes before meals and you should not consume any liquid during and 30-40 minutes after meals.
  • You should pay attention to meals to be rich in protein.
  • Even if you do not feel hungry, you should be careful not to miss your 3 main meals and 2 snacks.
  • We recommend that you eat slowly and chew your food properly.

4th LEVEL SOLID FOOD DIET

  • You are at regular diet level.
  • You can try legumes slowly.
  • Cereals such as rice, bulgur and pasta can be consumed occasionally under the supervision of a dietitian.
  • You should not consume foods rich in oil and sugar.
  • You should definitely avoid convenience food.
  • You should pay attention that high-protein foods (meat, chicken, fish, egg, cheese, milk and milk products).
  • All general restrictions will apply for the entire period of the gastric balloon treatment.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS AND RULES AFTER GASTRIC BALLOON

  • Patient should pay attention to SOLID-LIQUID DIFFERENCE. Liquid should not be consumed during, 30 minutes before and after meals.
  • Please try to avoid carbonated drinks for the period of the balloon treatment.
  • For the 1st month, don’t consume foods that are spiced, and cause gas (legumes, raw vegetables).
  • For the first month, don’t consume too hot or too cold foods.
  • Do not eat fried foods during this period.
  • Citrus fruits such as oranges, tangerines and grapefruits are acidic and should not be consumed for the period of the balloon treatment.
  • Eat slowly and chew completely.
  • Drink at least 2.5-3 liters of fluid per day.
  • Please remember to take a multivitamin.
  • If you try a food for the first time, don’t eat it with other foods. If it disturbs you, try it again 1 week later.
  • Try to gain health diet habit. If you keep being careful for a while and return to your old habits, it will cause you to regain your weight. Therefore, your aim should be eaten healthy and make it a habit.
  • You may have problems while consuming some foods. Don’t consume foods that disturb you for a while. Try again later.
  • Record your food consumption. Keep a notebook or notepad always with you and write down the foods you eat. It will be easier to control yourself and it will help your doctor to control you.
