Swallowable Intragastric Balloon

It is a very effective method for individuals who have difficulty in adapting to low-calorie, protein-weighted, small-portion nutrition programs and losing weight.

The idea for the swallowable intragastric balloon originated at Harvard University. Currently, over 200,000 swallowable intragastric balloon applications have been performed in the world.

In our clinic, 250 swallowable intragastric balloon applications have been performed successfully. No complications have been observed.

Also, 700 endoscopic intragastric balloon procedures were performed in our clinic. Our clinic performs an average of 15-20 intragastric balloons per month.

Clients lose an average of 10-15% weight after the intragastric balloon treatment. During this period, if patients who follow the nutrition program and exercise 3 days a week, weight loss can reach 20-25%.

The world average is a weight loss of 13%. The clinic average is 14%. The patient with maximum weight loss lost 35% of his/her total weight.

Patients who follow their dietary program after the intragastric balloon leaves the stomach can continue to lose weight.

The swallowable intragastric balloon can be repeated 2-3 times. The balloon leaves the stomach after an average of 16 weeks and the treatment can be repeated 1 month later.

How the swallowable intragastric balloon works?

Thanks to the 550-cc volume in the stomach, the patient can feel full with a much smaller amount of food. The balloon acts as a barrier, allowing food to stay in the stomach longer and patients feel fuller for longer. This facilitates better adjustment to the dietary program. In fact, the main purpose is to create early satiety and delayed hunger so that you can be more compliant with the nutrition program to be prescribed by the dietitian. We observe very effective weight loss and slimming in people who comply with this program.

Swallowable intragastic balloon treatment

The patient swallows the capsule-shaped balloon with 1 glass of water. Afterwards, a follow-up X-ray is performed and then the special liquid containing 550 cc ALLURION is injected into the balloon inside the stomach. The specific gravity of this fluid is less than that of gastric fluid. It allows the intragastric balloon to stay above the gastric fluid in the stomach. In other types of intragastric balloons, saline is injected into the balloon. This causes the balloon to descend further down into the stomach.  The follow-up X-ray is repeated and the procedure is completed by removing the cable from the balloon.

-In this treatment;
-Anesthesia and sedation
-Endoscopy
-No removal again.

The advantages of the swallowable intragastric balloon over other balloons are less nausea, vomiting and cramping lasting for only a very short time. In addition, complications such as gastric perforation, gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers are less common. This is because the balloon has an elliptical structure and is more compatible with the stomach.

Even if the balloon bursts in the stomach, it is naturally excreted from the body.

This balloon treatment is a single procedure. No removal again.  So, it is safer and more comfortable.

After the procedure, the Allurion app should be downloaded to the phone and paired with the dedicated scale. Patients are followed up with this method by our dietician, psychologist and physician for 6 months. In addition, a special WhatsApp group is created with the patient and the team and they are closely supervised.
