We have 2 bariatric dietitians in our team. Bariatric patients have distinct characteristics which set them apart from other clients. A dietitian should have a very good communication with his/her client, he/she should be able to empathize. It is crucial to constantly communicate with this group of patients, whose follow-up procedures and emotional experiences are different, and to be a life coach to change the way they live their lives. Providing 5 years of support by a dietitian requires a great deal of effort and dedication. Dietitians who are trained in bariatrics and dedicated to this patient group are much more successful than other dietitians. Bariatric dietetics is not just about preparing a nutrition program. It requires a very strong communication with the patients, learning their character and knowing their emotional state. It should be a person-specific program, not a standard nutrition program. It is available in a personalized WhatsApp group.
Bariatric Dietitian
Why is a bariatric dietitian important ?
Bariatric psychologist
What is the importance of the Bariatric Psychologist in the team?
We have 1 bariatric psychologist in our team.
We ensure a preliminary interview with a psychologist before bariatric surgery and aim to determine the motivation and expectations of the surgery patient, previous weight loss attempts, physical activity and problematic eating behaviors.
At the same time, in this examination, we ensure that both the person is a suitable candidate for the surgical method and the person who chooses bariatric surgery is informed about the postoperative steps. This appointment is not psychotherapy. It is an appointment in which the surgery patient is informed about the processes before and after the surgery. The aim of this interview is to determine the life history, psychiatric and/or psychological support history, weight gain and loss phases (grief, death, migration, depression, trauma) of the candidate who will undergo surgery. We inform the patient step by step about what to expect from the postoperative period onwards. In the beginning, we inform them that the diet will be based on a phased schedule, i.e. 15 days of liquid, 15 days of puree and 15 days of solid and soft food, so that the patient will not be disappointed later.
A bariatric psychologist will always be your supporter in cases of struggling with emotional hunger that may occur after surgery, anxiety about regaining weight or anxiety about not being able to lose weight.
The most important thing to underline here is that surgery is not only a weight loss method, but also a way to change eating behaviors, and it is advisable to emphasize that the surgical method plays only an intermediary role.
Our psychologist is also in a personalized WhatsApp group for each patient.
Clinic Coordinator
She leads the team. She is with our patients at every stage of the process. They are in contact from the first meeting to the 5-year long follow-up. She is responsible for preoperative counselling, organizing appointments, reception – hospital accommodation – arranging reports – hotel accommodation – discharge procedures – sending the lists of tests requested for postoperative follow-up and scheduling follow-up appointments.
Surgical nurse for bariatric operation
This is the person who attends your surgeries and has an important role in assisting your doctor. Our doctor always operates with the same person to ensure that there is no problem in the operation. They answer your questions about the organization and cleaning of the surgical equipment and your wounds in the early stages. It is available in a personalized WhatsApp group.
Operating room team for bariatric surgery
The team will be with you in the operating room. The team is responsible for the proper positioning of patients on the operating table, securing them and maintaining order in the room while the team is operating. Both nurses and the team are extremely important to ensure that the surgery goes perfectly and that the doctor can concentrate only on the operation.
